Highlanders are the 2015 Easycall Cup winners, edging PSL winners Chicken Inn in a tightly contested match at Barbourfields this afternoon. The match ended 1-0 in favour of Bosso and for their efforts they’ll pocket a cool $80,000. When taken into perspective, champions Chicken Inn netted US$100,000 for winning the 2015 PSL season.
What makes for interesting reading is that in the run up to winning this game against the ‘Gamecocks‘, they faced 2015 PSL 3-rd placed winners, FC Platinum in the quarter-final, winning that game 0-1. In their semi-final they met 2015 PSL 2-nd placed winners, Dynamos and dispatched them 2-1 to setup an all Bulawayo final.
In the final, Highlanders won it through a Ralph Matema penalty after 2015 Soccer Star of the Year and Chicken Inn captain, Danny Phiri was judged to have fouled Bruce Kangwa in the 39th minute. Matema stepped up and sent Elvis Chipezeze the wrong way with a left footed shot, denying Chicken Inn of a possible league and cup double and bagging themselves their second piece of silverware after winning the ZNA Charity Shield earlier in the year.
