Grace Mugabe Gets Closer To Being Vice President

It has been announced after a recently held ZANU PF Central Committe meeting in Harare that resolutions were made by all provinces that will be presented at the party’s 15th Annual National People’s Conference in Victoria Falls.

The ZANU PF Women’s League have made the biggest indication of wanting to install Grace Mugabe as Vice President of the country not only by stating their continued support of the First Lady as secretary for the Women’s League for the current term and beyond, but also by calling for the “need for gender parity where they want the Zanu-PF Constitution to be aligned with the national Constitution where it says there must be 50-50 representation in all positions“.

The women also resolved that they want the party Constitution to be amended and reinstate the previous position that one of the Vice Presidents must be a woman.”

The last female Vice President was Joice Mujuru, who was dethroned a year ago making way for the installation of (little known at the time) Phelekezela Mphoko and Emmerson Mnangagwa.

As the ZANU PF meeting in Victoria Falls is a ‘conference’, according to the ZANU PF constituion it is non-elective. Only a ‘congress’ is elective, for example last year’s event was a congress and the party elected Robert Mugabe as its leader, also amending their party constitution so that only the President is elected and he then makes appointments.

The calls for a female Vice President are rather interesting as just last year Grace Mugabe reminded Joice Mujuru that a male can take her post.
