7 bizarre fires that lit up Zimbabwe…

News broke recently that a fire had gutted former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe‘s house in Borrowdale. It has not been the first such incident to have befallen him, or even other high profile individuals in Zimbabwe.

Here a look at  fire incidents that have it up Zimbabwe in recent years:

1. Gideon Gono – Borrowdale House

In July 2015, former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono‘s Borrowdale house was gutted by fire, causing damage of close to us$50,000. See story

2. Phillip Chiyangwa – White House

Flamboyant businessman and politician Phillip Chiyangwa‘s famed ‘White House‘ was wrecked by fire late June 2015, the fire being assumed to be caused by an electrical fault at the time. No lives were lost. See story

3. Joice Mujuru – Poultry Houses

In May 2015, the former Vice President Joice Mujuru lost poultry houses and chickens numbering over 32,000 being ravaged. The fire was attributed to an electrical fault, no lives were lost. See story

4. Gideon Gono – Luna Chickens farm

Property worth about US$30,000 was destroyed when fire ravished facilities at a chicken farm owned by central bank governor, Gideon Gono in July 2013. Foul play was suspected as auditors were expected to visit the farm that week. See strory

5. Joice Mujuru – Damofalls house

A fierce inferno razed a house belonging to former Vice President Joice Mujuru, in Damofalls, Ruwa mid-September 2014. The nine-roomed house was burnt down due to a fire ostensibly started to “smoke out” a snake. See story

6. Gideon Gono – Chicken farm

Fire broke out again at Gideon Gono‘s farm in September 2013, the second in two months. The flames were blowing against the wind, thus minimizing the damage. Foul play was suspected. See story

7. Solomon Mujuru – Death

In August 2011 Retired General Solomon Mujuru died in an inferno at his Alamein Farm in Beatrice at his farmhouse where his body was burnt to ashes. No foul play was suspected from his death (according to an inquest carried out), with other sections of the media disputing it. See story
