13 Zimbabwean Musicians Flying Our Flag High Internationally…

It’s not easy to make it out of Zimbabwe as a musician, especially when you hear what great talent is available on the planet. Few individuals have managed to leave the Zimbabwean flavour on the ears of people abroad, but of those that have many a time the likes of Oliver Mtukudzi, Thomsa Mapfumo and Leonard Dembo come to mind.

But when we take the time to dig deeper, a great breed of up and coming talent are making a name for us worldwide.

Here is a list of 13 singers who are gracing the music players of the world and we see no reason why we all should not be indulging in their talent. They have made it onto American Idols, Australian Idols, Channel O awards as well as receive over 1.4m views on YouTube alone.

1. Riv Ngwenya

Riv Ruvarashe Ngwenya, Zimbabwe singer

Riv Ngwenya shot to fame with her Australian X-Factor performance of Alicia Keys’ If I ain’t got you  that would see her to the next round. She would just fall shy of making the Top 12 of the competition but establishing a name for herself all the same. The United States based gospel singer/songwriter actually has a PHD in Soil Physics/Geographic Information System (we don’t know what that is either, but usually when we don’t know it is something really interesting).
